This blog was created for my friend Terry Purdom. Terry was diagnosed with an incurable form of bone cancer called Multiple Myeloma in November 2004. Last summer 2010, Terry took a roadtrip to raise money to fund cancer research. My wife and I have both lost loved ones to cancer, and know the horrible effects that this disease has on friends, family, and those struck by the illness. Terry is truly a hero. Our dream is to help Terry with his cause. Please read more about Terry on his web site http://www.terrysbigadventure.com/

Another Donation!

This donation came from The American Fork Fire and Rescue. They donated 4 patches to us to place on the quilts in memory of my father in law who passed away from cancer in November of 2009. Jim was on the fire department (serving at on time as the fire chief), and worked for the city in many capacities for over 40 years. Thank you so much to our friends there.

The fourth donation

Our fourth donation came from Mark at Red Rock Harley Davidson in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mark generously offered his help with no hesitation what so ever. It's only about a 7 hour ride from our house.... we'd love to stop in and shake his hand! What awesome people we are meeting along the way! find them at http://redrockharley.com/     On their website is the following quote:
"You can buy a man's time, you can even buy his physical presence at a given place, but you cannot buy enthusiasm...you cannot buy loyalty...you cannot buy the devotion of the hearts, minds, or souls. You must earn these." -- Charles Frances  That gives you an idea of the quality of people that work at Red Rock!  Thanks again Mark! We got the shirts today 2/24/2011! You guys are awesome!

Today we picked up the fabric for the backs of the quilts, and the batting for them.... Now just waiting for more shirts!

A note from Terry on facebook :)

This Is Absolutely Amazing

by Terry Purdom on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at 6:15pm
I don't know what to say about this, except Mike and Nikki want to help. They live in Utah and followed me on my motorcycle adventure this past summer. The word got to me that Nikki wanted to make a couple of quilts to help me. They saw that I was giving up my health insurance and wanted to help me financially. I called Mike today, I think it was an emotional call for both of us. I told him I would be fine, but would it be okay to use the quilts to raise money for my American Cancer Society's, Relay  For Life Team. He was fine with that and that's what we are going to do. Hope Elevated! This is absolutely amazing!!!!

Best day ever!

Right after leaving Legends Motorcycles today (which was really outstanding), we got a call from Terry himself. Truly an inspiration.... he has a fantastic outlook on life, and hope beyond belief. What an honor to hear straight from him on how he has chosen to view his illness, and strive to make something lasting and so meaningful to others. What motivation! It makes me want to work that much harder to get these quilts made!

The third donation

Our third donation came today from Brent at Golden Spike Harley Davidson in Ogden, Utah. Brent generously offered the shirts we needed, and mail them to us!  http://www.goldenspikeharley.com/  Golden Spike Harley-Davidson, is located in beautiful Ogden, Utah. Out here, we prefer Ben Lomond Peak, Mount Ogden, and Strawberry Peak to tall skyscrapers. Instead of traffic jams and crowded freeways we have soaring mountain views and wide open roads under vast blue skies. Thanks so much Brent!!!

The second donation

I started calling all of the Harley dealerships near Salt Lake City asking for donations. Our second donation came from T at Legends Motorcycles in Springville, Utah. Legends offers a unique source for vintage and custom motorcycles. They also have rare, hard-to-find, and aftermarket Harley Davidson and Indian parts. Their show room is AWESOME! If you're ever in Sprigville you really should stop in! It's a once in a life time experience. T told us of some of the other things they are involved in. They take part in a ride for Juvenile Diabetes, Habitat for Humanity, and seeing eye dogs for the blind. Another hero :) Here is a picture of T giving me the shirts for the quilt, and our little one infront of the shop. She says T is "so totally cool" ! We're on our way!!! Thanks T! We're so excited about this now, and all of the generous people we're meeting along the way! Find them at http://www.legendsmotorcycles.com/

The first donation

We went to our local Harley dealer looking for other options. Brynn at Timpanogas Harley Davidson in Lindon, Utah started us on our new crusade for quilt "ingredients" by an innocent donation of 2 t-shirts from their dealership. Timpanogos H-D harvested most the materials to construct this dealership from Geneva Steel. This 58,000 square foot
building is believed to be one of the largest reclaimed or “green” structures in the country.  Over 75% of the materials used to build  this dealership was recycled from Geneva Steel, railroad bridges, and other early Utah industrial buildings dating back as early as the 1870’s.

Now we're on the hunt for t-shirts! By cutting them into squares, we'll have our quilts! Thanks Brynn!!!! Find them at http://www.timpharley.com/

Quilts for Terry :)

Our idea was to make a quilt to auction off online to raise money for Terry. Our hunt for Harley Davidson fabric was not good.... none of our local stores carry it anymore. As we have gone on, we have decided to make one for the Harley store that he works at in Bedford, Texas, as well. Hopefully they will be able to raise additional money for Terry. In total we'll make 3.... including one for Terry himself. Track our progress!
